MSU was established in 1755 by the famous Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov. The first building of the university was located where the State Historical Museum is situated now. The second one is opposite  Mochovaya Street and you can still see it today with the monument to M. Lomonosov in front. But the most famous and main building of the University was created by Joseph Stalin on Sparrow hills in 1953. It was one of the seven Stalin Skyscrapers. Nowadays MSU includes 15 scientific institutes, 41 schools, more than 300 departments and 5 branches, about 35 thousand students, 5 thousand postgraduates, 4 thousand teachers and 5 thousand researchers. MSU is the biggest and best Russian university.  MSU has famous alumni such as Mikhail Gorbachev, AndreySakharov, Nikolay Semenov (famous Soviet chemist), Soviet physicists Tamm, Frank and Ginzburg.  MSU ranked No. 84 in the Academy Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking).
