From medieval times there were trading rows at the place where the present building is situated. The older buildings were demolished and the architect Pomerantsev created the present one in 1893. In Soviet times  GUM meant State Universal Store and people could buy an array of goods, both  cheap and expensive. Nowadays GUM means Main Universal Store and first and foremost this  place houses extraordinary, expensive boutiques (Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, Versache, Gucci, Armani and others). There are a lot of exhibitions inside which  change every 2-3 weeks.  And, of course, there’s the  famous Soviet Canteen No. 57. It’s worth visiting to try traditional Russian food. GUM is open daily from 10 a.m. till 10 p.m.. Welcome to our main store!
